A new begining in the heart of winter
One month ago we packed up all our belongings into a big
horse box and drove many miles to our new home, out of Edinburgh, across the
firth of forth, through the hills of Glencoe, over the water on two ferries,
round winding single track roads and finally to the place that will be our home
for the next little while, Calgary bay, the Isle of Mull.
Our plan is to settle in to this wild and windy place. Ross
will be working as a gardener, woodworker and general handyman extraordinaire.
I will be setting up a studio, where I will run my business designing and
making jewellery, after a while I hope to set up a small gallery space next to
my studio, where I will exhibit my work alongside other contemporary jewellers.
After a month here we have already begun work setting up my
studio space, my bench is in place and many projects are on the go already. Our
house, a tiny converted dovecot, is beginning to feel like home. Our surroundings
- the hillside woodland, sandy beach and heathery hills are only just beginning
to be discovered.
We only have a few more days of island life before we return to the mainland for christmas. I'll be posting here regularly from now on with tales from the island, and updates from the studio.
